Priorities

  • When our land, air, and water are threatened, our lives are threatened. I learned from a young age to always clean up my own mess. Corporations should be held to the same standard.

Accountability for pollution isn’t just essential for protecting the health of our families and neighbors. It’s also essential for the fair competition of all businesses. The state must act as a referee by monitoring corporations and penalizing those who break environmental regulations. If left unchecked, rule-breaking players can ruin people’s lives and unfairly undercut competitors that are doing the right thing.

We need people in our legislature that understand the importance of protecting the quality and safety of our air, water, land, and climate. As a longtime environmental activist and lawyer, I promise to hold corporate polluters accountable and help make Colorado a leader in environmental protection. I will work with other elected officials to ensure we make real progress on these issues. Words alone aren’t enough.

  • Housing is a basic human need and a basic human right. Unfortunately, housing costs in Colorado are out of control. Many Coloradans can’t even afford to live in the same community in which they work. I will work to reduce costs for renters and homeowners alike, while making it easier for those experiencing homelessness to get back on their feet.

Access to affordable housing is essential to a strong and fair economy. We need legislators that will get real results that reduce housing costs. I will make this a priority of my work as your legislator.

  • Educating our children is one of our nation’s greatest investments. Unfortunately, Colorado students lack the resources that they need to succeed. Colorado consistently ranks poorly on per-pupil spending and teacher pay. It’s no surprise then that Colorado has hundreds of unfilled teacher positions.

A well-funded public education system will equip our children with the skills and knowledge they need, allowing them to be productive members of society and contribute positively to our community. I will fight for policies that ensure our students have the resources they need and our teachers get the compensation that they deserve.

  • The best way to improve public safety is by addressing core problems at the roots: by investing in good jobs, public schools, mental health care, reliable social services, affordable housing, clean air and water, and other policies proven to enhance community safety for all.

Everyone has the right to be safe, healthy, and free. I will fight to ensure all Coloradans live in safe communities by ensuring all people have their basic needs met, by interrupting violence before it happens, and by supporting crime prevention policies that get real results.

  • As an economist, I understand the importance of a strong and stable economy. I will work to improve the economy for everyone by encouraging job creation and keeping down the cost of living. To do this, we must prioritize small businesses and support workers. Our economy works best when everyone is doing well.

The challenges of the past few years have brought a new problem to Colorado’s economy: inflation. We must take diligent action to reduce the impacts of inflation on consumers and businesses. I will support policies that keep prices down while helping to increase pay for workers to keep up with inflation. I will also work for people on fixed incomes who need specialized economic solutions to maintain their way of life in these challenging times.

  • Access to high-quality affordable healthcare should be treated as a basic human right in the richest nation in the world. Importantly, access to mental health services, reproductive care, and preventative care are essential components of high-quality healthcare.

I will work on policies to decrease the cost of healthcare, destigmatize and fund mental health programs, and invest in programs that protect us from public health disasters like COVID-19. Coloradans shouldn’t have to choose between treating their health condition or putting food on the table. They shouldn’t have to go into debt to treat their mental health issues. And we shouldn’t be unprepared and unequipped during a public health crisis.

I will fight to reduce unnecessary costs while ensuring that people can receive affordable, quality health care when they need it.

  • The ability for individuals to control their own bodies and reproductive choices is a fundamental right. These rights are under attack every year, and with the protections of Roe v. Wade gone, our local elected officials are the last line of defense. I will be a steadfast opponent of any efforts to limit this right in Colorado and will fight to ensure reproductive justice for everyone in our community.

  • I believe in common-sense gun violence prevention legislation and supporting responsible gun ownership. Colorado has failed to keep our children safe in our schools and on our streets. As a result, too many parents have suffered in ways that no parent should ever have to suffer.

Gun safety doesn’t have to be a divisive issue. And most people agree on common-sense policies. In the legislature, I will fight for common sense gun safety measures that protect our community without violating anyone’s rights.

  • Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Immigrants and refugees are too often exploited and forgotten. I believe that a nation can best be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members. And we’ve got a long way to go.

We are a nation of immigrants, and this is one of our greatest strengths. In law school, I worked on cases on behalf of refugees and immigrants, giving me a close look at how the legal system works (or doesn’t work) for these vulnerable families. I grew up in an immigrant household with friends and family who were the recipients of DACA. These are some of the best people I know, and it always hurts to see how much fear they have of being separated from their families.

As a legislator, I will fight for policies that support undocumented students, keep families together, enriches our cultural landscape, and helps our economy thrive.

  • America is going through a loneliness epidemic, and our public institutions are failing us. We’ve spent the last few years isolated from our community and loved ones. We now need to invest in spaces and places that foster human connection. This includes public parks, libraries, community centers, and public events. We should also encourage mixed-used zoning to ensure people can get everything they need while staying connected to their community.

As a legislator, I will fight for policies that raise awareness about loneliness, bring communities together, and promote our vibrant culture.

  • A society does not thrive unless everyone, regardless of race, sex, age, religion, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender identity, is treated with the dignity and respect they deserve. I am committed to upholding and promoting civil rights, fighting discrimination, and ensuring equality for all in every policy that I approve.

I am committed to confronting systemic racism and advocating for policies that promote racial equity in education, healthcare, housing, employment, and the criminal justice system. I stand for the full equality and safety of all LGBTQ+ individuals. And I am committed to advocating for the rights of individuals with disabilities, focusing on accessibility, autonomy, and inclusivity in all aspects of society.

When we fight for vulnerable or marginalized communities, it benefits everyone. Because, as Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." No one is free until we are all free.

As a legislator, I will fight for policies that protect the dignity and rights of people from all walks of life.

  • Colorado's diverse ecosystems, from the majestic Rocky Mountains to the expansive plains, serve as a home to an incredible array of wildlife. Yet, our precious natural heritage is under threat due to pollution, habitat destruction, climate change, and other human activities. Protecting nature and animals isn’t just a moral obligation; it’s essential for the health and prosperity of our state and planet.

Gandhi once said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” I think we all believe in treating animals with dignity and respect. Yet large corporations are making record profits by mistreating animals in animal factories (“factory farms”) and destroying our precious ecosystems, all while hiding everything from the public.

As a legislator, I will fight for ecosystem and animal protection by shining a light on these issues, conserving Colorado’s beautiful landscapes, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
